Let’s Focus on Global Security Governance
TAO Jian[1]
The year of 2016 saw a volatile and complex international situation. The interwoven traditional and nontraditional security issues have increased the level of uncertainty faced by the international community and called for innovations in global security governance.
As China’s only English-language professional journal on international security, International Security Studies will naturally spotlight global security governance, which needs the full involvement of all scholars in this field.
We hope that overseas researchers who are conducting cutting-edge studies on security governance can publish their high-quality papers in our journal and promote security governance studies by sharing the fruits of their research.
We hope that overseas research institutions and academic journals can come to China to strengthen the links, cooperation and mutual learning with their Chinese counterparts.
The international conference on “Security Diplomacy: Territorial Disputes and Governance” was successfully held in 2016. Furthermore, the University of International Relations and Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs will jointly hold another international conference on “Assessing the International Nuclear Agenda” in 2017.
Based on International Security Studies, we are ready to provide a larger platform for security studies and are happy to see the involvement of more scholars and institutions.
We hope that Chinese scholars can take advantage of this platform to involve themselves more deeply in the debates on global security and governance, to enhance the relevant studies and make their voices heard overseas, and to lay a solid foundation for the sustainable development and theoretical continuum of China’s security governance studies.
To actively take part in global governance, China must introduce new doctrines and paradigms from its own perspective, theorize and systematize China’s security governance studies, and enhance its practical capacity.
Against this backdrop, it is absolutely necessary and opportune to make International Security Studies reach out to the world and become internationalized. We are fully aware of our responsibility and genuinely cherish this journal. In this regard, I sincerely call upon scholars both in China and abroad to offer more support to International Security Studies and further contribute to global security governance.
